Carlos Andrés Cante Puentes
Vice-Minister of Mines

Carlos Andrés Cante Puentes is presently in charge of the Office of the Vice minister of Energy and during this period he shall be devoted to reinforce the energetic sector in the region so as to boost economic growth and the post-conflict programs.

He was born in Neiva, studied Economics at the Universidad Católica and specialized in Finances at the Universidad del Rosario; he also has a Master's Degree in Public Affairs from the Latin American School of Social Sciences, FLACSO, Mexico. He also carried out studies on Gold Artisanal Mining at the Norman B. Keevil Institute of Mining Engineering of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada; on Corporate Government of the Universidad de los Andes, and on National Defense of the Superior School of War of the Ministry of Defense of Colombia. Mr Cante Puentes has specialized in mining energetic and community development subjects. He has a wide experience in public policies on mining rents and development of programs and projects of artisanal and small scale mining.

The career of Vice minister Cante has mostly been focused on the public sector both at the national and regional levels. At the regional level he performed as Secretary of the Treasury for the Department of Huila. He also was Director of Mines and Director of Mining Formalization at the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Advisor for Economic Matters of the Office of Mines and Energy and, more recently, Assistant Manager for regions of the Adaptation Fund of the Ministry of the Treasury and Public Credit. In academic instances he has participated as an associate researcher at the Norman B Keevil Institute of Mining Engineering at the British Columbia University, Vancouver, Canada, in subjects of mining training and coexistence between small and big mining.
